“Lagoa Misteriosa”, which translates as Mysterious Lagoon, is a lake at the bottom of a doline, a type of geological formation that looks like a hole, and it is all surrounded by riparian vegetation. The access to this lake of blue waters is a 70 meters staircase.
The Mysterious Lagoon is impressive for its incredible depth and water transparency, divers reported that at 30 meters it is still possible to see the trees surrounding the lake. During the winter months, visibility reaches 40 meters.
At the depth of 8-meter the lagoon divides itself in two tunnels, each one with about 10 meters in diameter, one of them descends vertically to over 240 meters of depth.
The diving is exciting and the feeling is that the Lagoon has no end. The depth of 220 m has been reached in exploratory dive and no bottom was found.
The dives are planned within the certification of each diver, and should always be accompanied by a diving professional to lead the entire operation. There are also special circuits for Cave Divers.
A delicious lunch at the main house of Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata nicely complements the tour.
Note: The tour is temporarily suspended for visitation. The Mysterious Lagoon is in the process of environmental licensing.
